SDG Action Weekend: A Leap Towards Sustainable Future

Attending the United Nations SDG Action Weekend in New York on September 16th and 17th was an inspiring experience. Being surrounded by global leaders, innovators, and changemakers all focused on accelerating progress toward the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was incredibly motivating. The event was a deep dive into practical solutions for some of the world’s most pressing challenges, from the role of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to the future of remote work, the Energy Compacts initiative, and the power of education to transform lives.

Addressing Challenges and Celebrating Achievements

While the discussions underscored the significant challenges ahead, they also celebrated the achievements of ongoing projects. The weekend highlighted the importance of collaboration and innovation in tackling obstacles to achieving the SDGs. It was a powerful reminder that, despite the hurdles, impactful work is underway to create a more sustainable and equitable world.

The Learning Passport: A Beacon of Hope in Education

One of the standout moments for me was the Learning Passport (LP) session with Mac Glovinsky, Justin Spelhaug, Mateusz Rafał, and Minister Conrad Omalikeh Sackey. The Learning Passport is a digital learning platform that has already reached 5.1 million learners, many of whom joined in 2023. What really struck me was the focus on marginalized groups—children on the move and out-of-school children—who are at the heart of this initiative. It’s amazing to see how this project is opening doors for those who need it most.

I’m particularly proud of Welotec’s role in this mission. Our EG600 Edge Gateway, which are produced in Laer, Germany, are the backbone of the Learning Passport’s offline solution. These small but mighty devices ensure that high-quality digital education can be delivered even in areas without internet access. Knowing that our technology is helping to make education accessible to all, in line with the United Nations’ SDG 4, is incredibly rewarding.

The Journey Ahead

The United Nations SDG Action Weekend was more than just an event—it was a call to action. The dedication and passion of the teams involved, including Welotec, are driving significant progress toward the 2030 goals. As we continue this journey, weekends like this one remind us that with collaboration, innovation, and determination, we can make substantial strides toward a better future for all.

Let's keep the momentum going and continue to support initiatives that make a real difference in people's lives.
