Easy rollout and management of mass devices - Welotec SMART EMS

The rollout and management of a high number of distributed devices creates a major challenge for many users. The configuration and implementation of mass devices comes with a high effort in coordination of staff and system maintenance. At the same time, there is a growing need for analysis and data gathering, beside the high requirements in IT security.  With Welotec Smart EMS we empower our customers with a straight-forward roll-out and management system for Welotec mass devices like Welotec 4G LTE Routers. The advantages of our solution at a glance:

Efficiency & Cost Streamlining Users profit from a remote device maintenance and management approach reducing costs in terms of travel and labour. The centralized system also decreases coordination effort for IT and OT. Furthermore the automated deployment of devices reduces end user involvement on site and allows a fast rollout of mass devices via zero-touch-provisioning.

Handling & Usability Welotec SMART EMS follows a template approach which allows automated deployment of firmware or device configurations. It can be seamless integrated into third party applications via API (e. g. ERP, Cloud or Monitoring). Furthermore it provides a user-friendly web interface with individual settings and design possibilities (e.g. branding or design options).

Diagnostics and Decision Making Users are empowered to gather diagnostic data for better and faster decision making in case device maintenance and connectivity. Welotec SMART EMS also allows a simple data visualization of every device worldwide and on-demand diagnostics for efficient fleet management or in case of short-term adoptions. The generated data can be directly transferred into third-party systems for further processing (e.g. Big Data Analysis).

Security & Connection As a central management system, Welotec SMART EMS provides a strong protection against manipulation. This includes an allocation of users to devices via tag-based authorization, a BSI compliant end-to-end encryption and the registration of devices via defined variables. Even in the case of security vulnerabilities it provides a fast rollout of firmware updates.

Central Management of globally Distributed Welotec 4G LTE Routers

Welotec 4G LTE Router Management via Templates

Welotec SMART EMS follows a template based aproach for managing mass devices like Welotec TK 800 and TK500 4G LTE Routers. The templates include a firmware, startup and running configuration. They can be assigned to individual devices or groups, depending on use case or project type. It´s also possible to assign device specific variables within a group, frequently used variables: IP Networks, PIN, Router name, APN.

Assignment of device specific variables:

Firmware:

A Template based management enables the deployment of remote firmware updates (New Features / Security Updates / Bug Fixes) or a step by step rollout of new versions. It also provides the possibility for quick responses to security incidents and full control of the installed firmware.

Start-Up Config: The relevant configuration is permanently saved on the device and also available after a power failure.

Running Config: The configuration is only saved in volatile memory. Once the router is disconnected from the power supply, the configuration is gone. In the event of theft, no certificates or sensitive access data are stored on the device.

Secure Connection of Welotec 4G LTE Routers

Connection is established from the device to the SMART EMS
  • BSI conform end-to-end encryption
  • Connection TLS 1.2 encrypted
Registration of the devices via definable variables:
  • Serial number of the device
  • IMSI - SIM based -> Configuration recovers itself after device replacement.

Zero-Touch-Provisioning: Rollout of Welotec TK800 and TK500 4G LTE Routers

Zero-Touch-Provisioning (ZTP) enables plug-&-play deployment of mass devices, even in complex networks. This brings cost and time savings through automated processes, low personal involvement and administrative expenditure. Even for commissioning or configuration on site, there are no specific requirements for personal training. Additionall ZTP provides a high security level through a centrally controlled configuration.
