Webinar: Digital Substations - 2026 in Review and Outlook for 2027 (Nov. 26, 0900 CET)

What has 2026 changed for digital substations and what will matter in 2027?

Virtualization, open-source platforms, multi-vendor integration and cybersecurity continue to shape discussions across the industry. For utilities, the practical questions are increasingly connected: which architecture to choose, how to manage its assets, and how to keep the system secure throughout its lifecycle.

Join Welotec and OMICRON’s Digital Substation Evangelist Dr. Fred Steinhauser for a discussion of the developments shaping digital substations, their implications for protection, automation and control, and the opportunities and challenges ahead.

Our discussion will cover:

• Virtualization and the choice of ecosystem

Where do proprietary, single-vendor virtualization products fit? What opportunities and challenges come with multi-vendor approaches? And how significant could open-source platforms such as LF Energy SEAPATH become?

• Cybersecurity, asset management and AI

How do these topics influence one another? We will discuss asset visibility, vulnerability management, threat assessment and incident response—and where AI-assisted approaches, including attack-path simulation such as Frenos, could contribute.

• Looking ahead to 2027

Which developments do we expect to see? Where are further advances needed? And what would we wish to see from vendors, utilities and the wider digital substation community?

Designed for professionals working in substation automation, protection and control, OT cybersecurity and utility digitalization, this webinar connects technology developments with the decisions facing the people who engineer and operate substations.
